    Gratiot-Isabella RESD (GIRESD) recognizes the importance of ensuring accessibility of its website for students, prospective students, parents, employees and members of the community with disabilities. We are committed to making information provided through the district’s website(s) (“online content”) accessible and are actively working to increase the usability of our website while maintaining compliance with the district’s legal obligations under Section 504 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

    Good faith efforts are being made to ensure that the online content of the district’s website complies with web accessibility standards, except where doing so would impose a fundamental alteration or undue financial and administrative burden. In addition to the federal regulations, we are actively working to conform to the W3C WAI’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA conformance, or updated equivalents of these guidelines.

    GIRESD utilizes Blackboard/Schoolwires as a content management system for creation and uploading of online content for our website. With utilizing a content management system, Blackboard/Schoolwires maintains certain aspects of our accessibility compliance.     The majority of online content on our site is available in HTML format that can be deciphered by screen readers. Some documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF), which require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. To download this free program, visit the Adobe website. To read PDF documents with a screen reader please link to the Access Adobe website which provides useful tools and resources.

    Please note that some pages on the district website contain links to third-party sites. GIRESD is not responsible for the online content or accessibility of third-party sites, which do not relate to the district’s programs, services and activities. GIRESD makes no assurances to any online content that is posted, hosted or offered on the district’s website by an individual or entity outside of the control of the district. 

    The District Director of Web Services will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating online content that is published by school staff and uploaded to the website for accessibility on a periodic basis. The District Director of Web Services will be responsible for reviewing the district website and evaluating its accessibility on a periodic basis, and at least once per quarter. Any non-conforming webpages will be corrected in a timely manner.

    GIRESD strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability as comprehensively as possible on this website. In an email, provide the URL (web address) of the material you tried to access, the problem you experienced, and your contact information.
