GIRESD REMC Director Joe Trommater spent a day at Ithaca North Elementary School making ornaments and jewelry out of coins. Students hammered, punched, and polished coins, then stamped names on them.

Educators from CGRESD and GIRESD districts just finished an intensive 6-week class with instructor Brian David to prepare them to take the FAA Part 107 Exam to become licensed commercial drone pilots. Passing this test will allow them to use their drones to take pictures for their school website and yearbook, as well as be better prepared to teach students about using drones in various industry applications. Thanks to all those who gave up their evenings to participate, and thanks to the REMC Association of Michigan for funding the training and testing. #REMC

Our Physical and Health Education Network met and discussed local Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth data. Also, what physical activity does for our bodies and how we can implement more in the classroom. The educators were able to try out SNAG Golf and work on their self care with yoga. It was a great day where our educators got to learn from one another with group work and sharing activities. Huge thank you to Shana Dancer, the owner of ZENlightenment Wellness Center in Alma for working with our educators!

Students in the Elementary MiCI classroom participated in an afternoon speech and language lesson that was all about pumpkins!! They completed an anchor chart with the characteristics of pumpkins, listened to a read-aloud of the book, "How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin," and then got to design their own pumpkins with markers and stickers. They carved a jack-o-lantern as a group, feeling and talking about the seeds, pulp, and more. It was all hands on deck with our speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist and classroom staff, and we had so much fun learning!

Students from Beaverton, Farwell, Fulton, Harrison, Mt. Pleasant, Sacred Heart Academy, and Shepherd recently tried out multiple STEM challenges as part of the REMC 5 Maker Roadshow with Director Joe Trommater. Challenges included programming robots, creating game controllers out of found objects, and building the heaviest tower balanced on two blocks. The 5th grade from Sacred Heart Academy has the record by using every single block. Time to buy some more blocks!
