Students from Gratiot-Isabella schools participating in the LINKS Exchange program were welcomed to Luwigslust-Parchim in north-central Germany! There are 70 students and adult coordinators who will spend two weeks in partner schools.
After hours of travel, the joy was great! The students got to know their host families at DeveLUP and met their friends from LUP, who had been in Michgian for their side of the exchange a few months ago.

Headline: Reclaiming Childhood in the Digital Age

What happens when we swap screen time for "play time"? Shepherd parents just finished an eye-opening study of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, led by GIRESD's Tracey Galgoci.

Over four sessions, parents dove deep into how we can protect our kids' well-being by:
✅ Reducing social media and gaming risks.
✅ Increasing independence and responsibility.
✅ Cultivating resilience through real-world experiences.

Huge thanks to Laurie Richards (Winn Elementary) and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for donating the books and making this collaboration possible. Let’s work together to give our kids the offline childhood they deserve!

Mrs. Curtis' class recently embarked on an exciting field trip to Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum, where they spent the day exploring the historic decks of the USS Edson. The students had a fantastic time, walking through the retired destroyer, getting a hands-on look at Navy history while honoring the veterans who served aboard her.

Farwell Middle School Students recently finished a unit on Stop Motion Animation with REMC 5 Director Joe Trommater. Students used laptops that REMC has configured to run video and audio applications to create original works. You can see the videos they made here:

Throughout January and February, a group of secondary teachers at Shepherd Public Schools engaged in a book study of Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation. At the final session, GIRESD Behavioral Health Coordinator Tracey Galgoci led a discussion on practical strategies schools can use to reduce screen-time impact on youth mental health. We are proud of these educators for modeling lifelong learning to better support our students!
