Students from Beaverton, Farwell, Fulton, Harrison, Mt. Pleasant, Sacred Heart Academy, and Shepherd recently tried out multiple STEM challenges as part of the REMC 5 Maker Roadshow with Director Joe Trommater. Challenges included programming robots, creating game controllers out of found objects, and building the heaviest tower balanced on two blocks. The 5th grade from Sacred Heart Academy has the record by using every single block. Time to buy some more blocks!
The GIRESD Counselor Network had the opportunity to tour the CMU Engineering & Technology department today. They learned about all the different types of engineering programs available for our students interested in STEM careers.

Child Advocacy of Gratiot County is hosting two FREE events in November.
On November 5th from 6-8, the Gratiot County Substance and Suicide Prevention Program has a virtual event named The Top Secret Project where caregivers will be guided through a virtual teen bedroom.
On November 7th from 11:30-1:00, Child Advocacy is hosting a lunch and learn called Veteran Perspective where guest presenter Katherine Logan-Dinco, MS will discuss the understanding the needs for combat veterans.

Mt. Pleasant Middle School teachers started their professional development day with Joe Trommater, REMC 5 director, trying out some of the STEM and Maker Materials available for them to check out. Teachers created stop motion videos, used microscopes clipped to their phone cameras to view small objects, programmed robots, and built towers.
Last week, REMC 5 Director Joe Trommater shared the REMC 5 Maker Materials available for checkout to teachers in the region. Beal City Students and teachers had a chance to program robots, build towers, play games, and create videos with equipment teachers can check out from REMC 5.
REMC Director Joe Trommater joined fellow educational technology leaders from around Michigan in Houghton/Hancock to experience place-based learning, including Calumet Electronics, the Quincy Mine, and the MTU research vessel the Agassiz.
